March 22, 2020

Dear Friends,

This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it! Lenten Blessings to you amongst Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) concerns. Luke 12:22; “Therefore I tell you do not be anxious about your life.” And later in verse 25; “And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?” Don’t be anxious. That’s what not to do.

Here is what to do: “Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys” (and I dare to say no virus attacks?). For where your treasure is there will your heart be also” (Luke 12:33-34)

Convention Prayers and Help: In these uncertain times we continue to trust in the Lord. He has given us this organization of Christian women and I encourage you to pray for not only our District but for all Districts. A couple of Districts, Oklahoma and New England District have postponed their conventions that were to be in April. There are many concerns with our convention coming up in July. As of now we will continue to plan for convention and pray that this virus will soon become a memory and our lives will get back to normal. (But what is normal? We may have a new normal after this virus.)

Mite Offerings: Since many of our LWML groups/societies will not be able to meet for one or two months I ask that you contact your congregations encouraging them to continue to collect mites, in their homes or at their churches, sending them in on a regular basis. The needs of His people continue and giving our mission dollars and praying for grant recipients gives glory to God and takes our minds off any difficulties we may be experiencing.

Servants of God: Lets see what “Lutheran Women In Mission” seems to do best! Please send an email to each congregation in your Zone, encouraging the women to look around in their church and community to see who needs help with buying groceries, picking up medication, getting their mail etc. Ask each LWML group/society to establish a system to identify those in need and reach out to them pray with them and for them and offer to run errands.

Together we can meet the challenges this world throws at us. With the Holy Spirit’s help, we can find opportunities our Lord puts before us to serve His people and share His Gospel. What a wonderful opportunity for us to spread His word and we will always remember, we are HIS!

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

Many of you may be working from home but in my situation I’m still working every day with having a temperature check daily, visiting residents who have not seem their families for over a week with maybe a peek in their window from their families. Pray for our healthcare workers and doctors who are on the front line. May we show God’s love in all we do!

If you have questions; please contact me by email or phone we will get through this together! May you feel God’s loving arms around you each day!

Serving Joyfully,

Susan Gruber, President

LWML Michigan District
